NFIR – Increased number of deaths of on duty Railway staff on suburban tracks (Mumbai)

No. II134/Part 16

Dated: 23.05.2017

The Secretary (E),
Railway Board,
New Delhi

Dear Sir,

Sub: Increased number of deaths of on duty Railway staff on suburban tracks (Mumbai)-reg.

***********

NFIR enclosed copy of Times of India news clipping – May 20th 2017 (Mumbai Edition). From this media report, it is noticed that eight employees lost their lives on duty in eight months.

Due to non-availability of “standard operating procedures”, the Railway staff working on suburban section (Mumbai) are put to greater risk. The fatalities number in recent months has been causing demoralization among staff

NFIR, therefore, requests the Railway Board to kindly review the situation and arrange to issue suitable policy guidelines with regard to safety of on duty staff more particularly on suburban section to minimize the number of casualities.

DA/As above

Yours faithfully,
S/d,
(Dr. M. Raghavaiah)
General Secretary
