Six future vacancies of Administrative Members in the Armed Forces Tribunals

Subject:- Selection of Administrative Members of the Armed Forces Tribunal

Applications are invited from eligible serving or medically fit retired officers of Army, Navy, Air Force and other eligible candidates, as per the eligibility criteria stated below for filling up of six vacancies of Administrative Members in the Armed Forces Tribunal, which are going to arise in the near future.

2. Schedule 18(3) to Rule 9 of “The Tribunal, Appellate Tribunal and other Authorities (Qualifications, Experience and other Conditions of Service of Members) Rules, 2017” notified vide GSR 514(E) on 01.06.2017 provides that –

“A person shall not be qualified for appointment as Administrative Member, unless he,-

(a)        he has held or he has been holding the rank of Major General or above for a total period of at least three years in the Army or equivalent rank in the Navy, or the Air Force; or

(b)        he has served for not less than one year as Judge Advocate General in the Army or the Navy or the Air Force, and is not below the rank of Major General, Commodore and Air Commodore respectively; or

(c)        he is a person of ability, integrity and standing having specialknowledge of, and professional experience of not less than twenty years in, economics, business, commerce, law, finance, accountancy, management, industry, public affairs, administration or in any other matter which in the opinion of the Central Government, is useful to the Armed Forces Tribunal.

3.In terms of the said schedule to the Rule ibid, term of office of the Member  is for three years and the maximum age for holding office by the Member is sixty-five years.

4. Salary, allowances, other terms and conditions of the Members of the AFT, shall be governed by the provisions of the Armed Forces Tribunal Act, 2007 (55 of 2007), as amended by the Finance Act, 2017 (7 of 2017), the Tribunal, Appellate Tribunal and other Authorities (Qualifications, Experience and other Conditions of Service of Members) Rules, 2017 and other rules made thereunder from time to time.

5. The selected persons are liable to be posted to anywhere in India having a Bench of the Armed Forces Tribunal and the appointment shall carry an All India transfer liability.

6.The information and material pertaining to the following categories are required to be enclosed alongwith the application/bio-data in the prescribed format for the post of Administrative Member in the Armed Forces Tribunal:-

(i)         Army, Navy & Air Force – Any decision/order given by the applicant during his service in disciplinary matters and if it can be provided.

(ii)        Others – Detailed information/achievement relating to the field of professional expertise of the applicant which may be useful to the Armed Forces Tribunal.

7. Eligible officers may forward their applications alongwith their bio-data in the prescribed format and details as mentioned in para 6 above, if any, directly or through respective Service Headquarters/Offices to the Ministry of Defence, latest by 8th September, 2017 at the following address:-
