SC’s OROP order for all ranks, say ex-servicemen

July 12, 2015 rajasinghmurugesan

SC’s OROP order for all ranks, say ex-servicemen

With the Supreme Court ordering that the government should implement the ‘One Rank, One Pension’ (OROP) within six weeks, ex-servicemen have said the implementation should be for all ranks and not just for the major general rank for which the case was filed.

In relation to a case going on in the Supreme Court pertaining to the difference in pension of major general rank officers, the apex court in February gave the government a three-month deadline for implementation of OROP.

“Additional Solicitor General Pinky Anand said in the hearing that the government has sanctioned OROP after which the case will be solved itself. The Supreme Court then gave a three-month deadline, which has passed,” said Maj. Gen. (retd.) Satbir Singh, chairman of the Indian Ex-Servicemen Movement.

“The impression now being created is that OROP will be only for major general rank, which is not true. OROP is for all ranks and has to be implemented for all ranks,” the retired army officer told IANS.

In February, a bench of Justice T.S. Thakur and Justice A.K. Goel gave the government a three-month deadline for implementing OROP.

On Wednesday, the bench gave the Centre another six weeks for implementation of OROP on a request made by Anand, who asked for some more time to enable the government to do the needful.

“The SC order is clear, OROP shall be implemented,” Maj. Gen. Singh said.

Meanwhile, braving incessant rain, ex-servicemen continued their protest at Jantar Mantar in the national capital.

Saturday was the 28th day of the protest by ex-servicemen over OROP, which began on June 14. Since June 15, the veterans have been holding a relay hunger strike.

“Both the UPA and NDA governments’ sanctions of OROP were an eyewash. I hope that the present government will now abide by the SC order,” Maj. Gen. Singh added.

The ex-servicemen are demanding that the government give them a date for implementation of OROP. They have also demanded that the nature of the scheme should not be changed.

Currently, pension for retired personnel is based on the Pay Commission recommendations at the time when the personnel retired.

This leads to a difference in pension for officers of the same rank who retire on different dates.

It is a shame for all those ruling the country if the protector and saviour of the nation’s honour and dignity have to sit on the roads to demand their legal and legitimate right accepted by all political parties and honourable SC of the country as drafted by committee set up by the government.

ours is a country where democracy remains on paper. The so called guardians of peoples ` rights often fail in their duties, latest example being OROP .

The inaction of government has forced me to give a new form to our PM MODI (Man Oppossed to Defence of India).

He claims to be a person having seen the hardship and worse conditions of ex servicemen and will work for the betterment of this ignored lot.

He has the guts to ignore the supreme court even because he is supreme boss.

Let him do what ever he likes. After all boss is boss.

OROP is an essential need which government should implement. Moreover government should ensure a job of same cadre on retirement/discharge from service as these defence personnel face a lot of problem in resettlement. Jai Hind

    Respected Sir,

It is to noticed that all the commissions (Pay / Pension) are in favour of Officers only, resulting which no any JCOs/OR is capable to give a good house at choice place of their families and also not able to provide the good higher education to their children due to financial hardship. So, it is time to do something better for improvement in living standard of JCOs/OR through Pay / Pension commission. The soldiers are devoting their life with the struggle in hard areas with the separation of their families. With warm regards. JAI HIND

    dear sir,

mr arun jaitley is modifying the supreme court order that OROP is granted to general officers only, and he might have advised the AG to say so, some internal problem among officers, JCOS and OR can be engineered so that he and his PM [NRI] shall prolong the implementation of OROP on some unimportant causes . very good mr modi and arun jaitley, both of you have cheated and betrayed the genuine interest of ex army people for your personal benefits , as a retaliatory measure, on being defeated by the ex service men in the lok sabha you are adopting this anti ex army campaign, as a true soldier of india we will never succumb to your dirty tactics, we will maintain strict discipline and honour even if you do not sanction OROP for another four years. we will wait for another four years but reluctant to get the sanction from your dirty hands, no river is having water to wash off your sins that you are committing on ex army 90 years old and my beloved veer naris those who are sitting on hunger strike for the past one month. lord shiva come to earth in guise of incarnation and perish you when dharma is put in peril
