OROP protest continues as government gives fresh assurance

On a day when Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said the government was committed to ‘One Rank One Pension’, protesting ex-servicemen wondered if they should be hopeful once more.

“It is good if it is true. But it is late…” Col. (retd) Anil Kaul, spokesman of the United Front of Ex-Servicemen (UFESM), told IANS.

“We are getting assurances since February. Hope the minister is not wrong again,” he said.

The protest, which started on June 14, entered its 26th day on Thursday.

Since June 15, ex-servicemen have been sitting on a relay hunger strike, and on Thursday, 59 veterans were fasting.

Asked when anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare was likely to join the protest, Kaul said they have not yet got any information on that.

The ex-servicemen are demanding that the government gives them a date for implementation of the OROP. They have also demanded that the nature of the scheme should not be changed.

Currently, the pension for retired personnel is based on the Pay Commission recommendations at the time when the personnel retires.

This leads to a difference in pension for officers of the same rank who retire on different dates.

With OROP, retired personnel would draw the same pension as officers of the same rank who are retiring now.

They would also be entitled to a year’s back pension at the new rate, which would be a windfall for pensioners.

The OROP will benefit 25 lakh ex-servicemen. It is expected to cost the government around Rs.8,500 crore.

BLANK FIRE DO NOT STRIKE THE TARGET. STRIKE WITH BULLETS.
AIM PROPERLY TO THE TARGET. DO NOT SHAKE THE BARREL. HOLD IT STRONG AND FIRE.

MODI KONWS PASSENGERS IN RAILWAY STATION TO WHOM TEA IS SERVED. HE WANTS CUPS BACK TO WASH AND SERVE TEA TO OTHER PASSENGERS. SOME SMART PASSENGERS TAKE AWAY CUPS. AND MODI FEELS SAD AND LOST. FOOLS ARE THOSE GAVE BIG BILLS (CURRENCY) TO MODI BEFORE GIVING BACK CHANGES WHILE IN TRAINS THAT STOPPED IN STATION. MODI MOVES AWAY AND SAY ‘I BRING CHANGES” AND NEVER APPEAR AGAIN. THE PASSENGER LOST HIS MONEY. THAT IS MODI THE SMART FRAUD DID IN RAILWAY STATION. SAME WAY HE RULES THE NATION. FOOLS ARE THOSE GAVE VOTE AND ALLOW HIM TO SEAT ON THRONES OF INDIA.

A COUNTRY OF NOSE LESS PEOPLE IS RULED BY PERSON WITH CUT PIECE OF NOSE.

WHO IS GOING TO GET OUT OF THE TRAIN AND FETCH WHERE MODI DISAPPEARED WITH THE CURRENCY WITHOUT PAYING THE BALANCE OF TEA. HE WILL LOOSE HIS TRAIN. AND LUGGAGE. HOW SAD TO THAT COUNTRY IF SUCH TEA SELLERS ARE KEPT ON POWER TO RULE?

Sir, as I have mentioned that FM has no image, power and prestige in Union Cabinet. It is, therefore, advisible not to involve him. We must ensure that he does not address any defence gathering in National Interest. I am most worried at the chain of command. We have our duty to the Nation. Our pension means public money. We have our duty to standby the Nation. We are letting down National Image. We ESM are to demonstrate intagriy, honesty with discipline. Citizen of India are aware and keenly watching. They will standby us and we will get justice. Request maintenance of patience with dignity. May follow path of insbordination in Govt. Function. Regards,

    Dear sirs,

The inexperienced and irresponsible BJP ministers, only three besides three more ex army ministers are playing with the sentiments and security of the country. modi does not know how to rule the country, he has been catapulted to the power. today we receive direct threat from pakistan general that nuclear weapons will be used on india if war breaks out. already I predicted these nil political knowledge modi, parikkar and jaitley will definitely ruin the secular fabric and they create division among ex army officers and jawans by their dilatory tactics to implement OROP, once the discipline is breached no earthly power can contain or control it. the first soldiers uprising was in the year 1807 in vellore, thereafter in the year 1857, now it is imminent on seeing the situation, parikar, modi and jaitley are political zeros, they do not know how to steer the country, it may lead to anarchy, we soldiers will definitely uphold the discipline, dignity and duty for nation. only god can save india

It is sad to note that OROP talk about Officers pension only. What about the PBOR? Do they have any say? It seems Govt also talk about Officers’ pension! My concern is our PBOR’s struggle should not go unnoticed.

The biggest losers on this long sordid drama of OROP are the jawans for leaving farming and ruling party for taking inordinate time to workout modalities for more than one year thereby underscoring good governance that has resulted in the UN assessment of most hungry nation. The lethargy must be shed for good governance

we ex-servicemen have understood the politics of our great leaders. everytime they are only console us by saying this issue is commited but unable to provide the exact date of implementation of orop. During this strike period also govt could not able to decide when to declare the orop .this shows this time also they are trying the issue will be stored in cold chamber by saying govt is commited and it will be given. If we exservicemen dont take any strong advancment on orop this time, all efforts will be in vain like past happenings. If at all orop to happen this should be in this time and if not then never it will happen. We are ready to do any thing even to sacrifice our life for the shake of our colleague (expired) their family and children.
