Ex-servicemen’s OROP protest continues for 30th day

The protest by ex-servicemen demanding ‘One Rank One Pension’ (OROP) continued in the national capital for the 30th day on Monday, as the veterans said they have not received any message from the government yet.

On Monday, 35 veterans sat on the relay hunger strike while around 300 others attended the sit-in protest.

Protests and rallies were also held in Mohali, Ambala and Gujarat, said Col. Anil Kaul (retd.), spokesman of the United Front of Ex-Servicemen Morcha.

The ex-servicemen are demanding that the government should give them a date for implementation of the OROP scheme. They are also demanding that the nature of the scheme should not be changed.

Currently, pension for retired personnel is based on the Pay Commission recommendations at the time when the personnel retired. This leads to a difference in pension for officers of the same rank who retire on different dates.
