Touring North-East Region and Kashmir using the LTC concession is nearing a close. Employees can use this wonderful opportunity as the summer holidays are fast approaching. Only on receiving a formal intimation will we know if this scheme will be continued in the forth coming years. Using this LTC concession one can avail the opportunity of touring North-East and Kashmir using airways also. I wish to share with you here the experience of people, who toured parts of North-East including, Kolkata, Gangtok and Darjeeling but before that I want to tell you how to apply for LTC.

a. First, plan your tour destination

b. Confirm your train or air tickets

c. Apply for LTC leave (In the leave form, you have to clearly specify the North-East region and Kashmir packages.)

d. After your leave is sanctioned, the LTC form should be filled correctly and completely.

e. You have to carefully verify the following things in the form: i. Tour destination ii. Advance iii. Encashment leave and iv. Family particulars

f. After forwarding this, it will be published in the order. You have to verify and confirm whether the particulars in the order you specified are correct.

g. Along with this order, you have to send the train ticket and flight tickets to your respective department.

h. Within a few days, you will get your advance and encashment leave. After completing all these formalities we can start our tour.

i. When you return from your tour you have to send your train and flight tickets for final claim.

Now, let us talk about some important places in Kolkata, a popular Indian city. When we say Kolkata, we at once remember the Howrah Bridge. I have attached some historical details and a video clip about the bridge here.

Howrah Bridge 

The end of the 17th Century Kolkata witnessed the gradual emergence of the city of Kolkata brought about by the merger of three villages – Kolkata, Sutanati & Gobindapur, on the eastern bank of the river Hooghly, the other name of River ‘Ganga’. On the western bank, Howrah came up as a bustling site of commerce.

The twin cities of Calcutta (re-named as Kolkata in the year 2001), and Howrah , were separated by the River Hooghly, and shared a common historical linkage towards the eventual construction of the Rabindra Setu, more commonly known as Howrah bridge. While Kolkata, from a small sleeping hamlet of artisans and mercantile community eventually developed , as a commercial hub of a modern metropolitan city , Howrah (virtually the store house of raw material resources) became its industrial satellite.

Kolkata was declared the capital of India by the British and remained so till 1911. The railway station at Howrah set up in the year 1906 and the bridge (later popularly known as Howrah Bridge) thus served as the logistic link with the country’s one of the oldest metropolies, Kolkata. The Legislative department of the then Government of Bengal passed the Howrah Bridge Act, in the year 1871, under the Bengal Act IX of 1871.(Read more)
